Nicolas Jallot, né le 6 avril 1965 à Renazé (Mayenne), est un écrivain, réalisateur de documentaires et grand reporter français. Fils d'un mineur de fond-perreyeur dans le bassin ardoisier du Haut-Anjou, cette origine marquera profondément son œuvre, jusqu'à son documentaire et livre sur les « gueules bleues » (2023-2024).
Journaliste d'investigation dès le début des années 1990, il collabore à Sens Magazine (1991-1992), Le Point (à partir de 1994), VSD et La Chronique d'Amnesty Internationale, avant de devenir chef du service étranger de France Soir.
En 2001, sous l'influence de Christophe de Ponfilly — qui lui transmet sa passion pour l'Afghanistan — il quitte la presse quotidienne pour se consacrer au documentaire de création. Depuis, il a réalisé 30 documentaires pour France 2, France 3, France 5, Arte, LCP, M6, Histoire TV, BBC, RMC Découverte et les télévisions suisses et belges (RTS, RTBF).
Auteur de douze ouvrages publiés chez Belfond, Stock, Allary Éditions, Éditions Ouest-France et Nestor-Istoria, il est reconnu comme un spécialiste des films d'histoire contemporaine. Ses thèmes de prédilection traversent l'histoire soviétique, l'espionnage de la guerre froide, l'Afghanistan, les conflits oubliés et les destins brisés par l'Histoire.
Nicolas Jallot, born April 6, 1965 in Renazé (Mayenne, France), is a French writer, documentary filmmaker, and investigative journalist. The son of a deep-shaft slate miner in the Haut-Anjou mining basin, this heritage profoundly shaped his work, culminating in his documentary and book about the "gueules bleues" (blue-faced miners, 2023-2024).
An investigative journalist since the early 1990s, he contributed to Sens Magazine (1991-1992), Le Point (from 1994), VSD, and Amnesty International Chronicle, before becoming head of foreign news at France Soir.
In 2001, influenced by Christophe de Ponfilly — who transmitted his passion for Afghanistan — he left daily journalism to devote himself to documentary filmmaking. Since then, he has directed 30 documentaries for France 2, France 3, France 5, Arte, LCP, M6, Histoire TV, BBC, RMC Découverte, and Swiss and Belgian television (RTS, RTBF).
